Top Home Heating Tips

Heavy snow and severe cold will be here soon. Here are a few home heating tips to keep you prepared:

  1. Open low return register. Our YouTube video demonstrates.
  2. Replace batteries in your thermostat. If your furnace isn’t working, the first thing you can check is your thermostat. Often the batteries need to be replaced. If it still doesn’t work after changing your batteries, look outside to see if snow is blocking the outside vents.
  3. If your home is unoccupied for an extended period during the winter, we recommend turning off the water heater and set your thermostat to at least 60 degrees. Setting your thermostat below 60 degrees will help your Lennox equipment run more effectively and prevent potentially damaging humid conditions in your home.
  4. Keep draperies and shades on your south-facing windows open during the day to allow the sunlight to enter your home and closed at night to reduce the cool you may feel from windows.
  5. Find and seal leaks in windows and doors.
  6. Maintain your heating system and replace your furnace filter.
  7. Refer to “How to Maintain Your Furnace During Extreme Cold” if we have another polar vortex!
