On Saturday, October 7, 2017, 70 members of Steamfitters Local 601 inspected and serviced heating systems for 95 area veteran homeowners in Madison and The Greater Madison Area. During the check-up, two homeowners were found to have faulty heating systems and will have their furnaces replaced free of charge from the Heat’s On Project. Several other homeowners received extensive repairs that would have cost them $500-$1,200 during the complimentary furnace check and clean.
Noah Strand, with H & H Industries, and Angelo Reynolds, with Control Solutions, were two volunteers who participated in the annual event on Saturday. Noah noted, “We had to lockout a unit with a faulty heat exchanger. He was a World War II Veteran, who was admitted to the ER earlier this year for carbon monoxide poisoning. It is fortunate that he signed up from the program.” Both individuals volunteered their time to give back to the veterans who served their country proudly. Angelo shared, “I am a veteran, and I will continue to volunteer for this program to ensure my fellow veterans have safe and working furnaces for the cold winter months.”
Madison-based companies General Heating & Air Conditioning and H & H Industries will be donating the labor to install the new furnaces this week. Temperature Systems will be donating two high-efficiency furnaces.
Heat’s On Project was established in 1987 to ensure area residents had working furnaces and would not have to face life-threatening circumstances. It is a collaborative effort between Madison Area Mechanical & Sheet Metal Contractors Association (MSC), Steamfitters Local 601 and local area suppliers. To date, they have checked over 2,500 homes in Madison and Dane Country. The next program is tentatively set for Saturday, October 5, 2018.
