**SWEEPING CHANGES TO CITY OF MADISON SMOKE ALARM REGULATIONS
The updated ordinance requires city of Madison landlords and homeowners to install a smoke alarm in every bedroom and every floor of a home. It also bans the use of 9-volt batteries. Under the ordinance, tenants and landlords will have two options. They can either install an alarm that is wired and has a non-rechargeable or rechargeable battery, or a smoke alarm that's non-removable and has a 10-year lithium battery. Click for details.

Keypads
Keypads today are engineered for ease of use. They are designed so you can take advantage of all of your security system features in the simplest way. There are many variations of keypad. There are simple models to the more complex. The TouchCenter model for example (featured here) is a unit that is touchscreen, functional on a graphic interface, with menu driven prompts to guide the user every step of the way.
Glass Break Detectors
These detectors are designed to detect the sound of breaking glass. They can catch a thief attempting to make entry into your home through a glass door or window. These detectors mount to a wall or the ceiling. They are usually sufficient to protect within a 20-35ft radius.
Key fob
A key fob is a security token. It is a small device with a built-in autoauthentification mechanisms. The fobs can either arm or disarm your system with the punch of a button. A very nice and convenient item to have.
Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
All Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors are not created equally. Furthermore, in the City of Madison, as of August 1st of 2010, a new ordinance requires all smoke detectors to be hard wired into your home. This means no more battery powered devices. Motion Detectors
This device detects movement inside an enclosed structure. You can purchase motion detectors with pet immunity up to 40 pounds. Use in large rooms, narrow corridors, and stairwells.
Sirens & Strobes
Most of the time, sirens and strobes go hand in hand. If the alarm goes off, the siren will sound, and if you've ever heard one of these, you'll know that the sound can stun anyone into freight. When the siren starts, so will a strobe, if installed. The strobe and siren are very effective at getting people's attention. A thief knows this, and will be very aware that a fast exit is needed. Strobes, with the correct application, have the added benefit of being able to guide families out of a smoke filled house.
